THEME: HIS WORD IS AN ACTION WORD!
TEXT: [NKJV] JOHN 5:8-9
"Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your bed and walk." [9] And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath."

In our anchor Scripture, we encounter a man who had been suffering from an infirmity for thirty-eight years. His condition had lasted for decades, and his long-standing experience of helplessness had become a significant part of his life. However, when Jesus encountered him, the situation that had persisted for thirty-eight years was confronted by a Word that required only a moment to produce a change. Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your bed and walk." Notice that Jesus did not merely sympathize with the man or remind him of how long he had suffered. He spoke a Word that demanded a response and carried the power to make that response possible. The man who had been lying down was instructed to rise; the man who had been helpless was instructed to take up his bed; and the man who had been unable to walk was commanded to walk.

Beloved, the Word of God is an action Word because it does not merely communicate God's intentions; it also carries divine power to accomplish His purposes. Isaiah 55:11 declares that God's Word will not return to Him void, but will accomplish what He pleases and prosper in the thing for which He sent it. Whenever God speaks, He does not speak empty words. His Word carries His authority, reveals His will, and accomplishes His purposes. The same God who spoke the universe into existence is able to speak into the circumstances of your life and bring about His desired transformation. However, we must understand that God's Word is not an invitation to passivity. In the account of John 5:8–9, Jesus commanded the man to rise, take up his bed, and walk. The man responded to the instruction he received. His response demonstrated his willingness to act upon the Word of Christ.

Our responsibility is to trust God's character, understand His Word in context, obey His instructions, and remain steadfast in faith as we depend on His wisdom and timing. The Word that commands you to rise is also able to strengthen you to take the next step. Therefore, do not merely celebrate God's Word with your lips; allow it to shape your life through faith and obedience. When God's Word says forgive, forgive. When it says love, love. When it says be diligent, be diligent. When it calls you to stand firm in faith, refuse to surrender to fear. Let your daily conduct demonstrate that you believe the Word you profess. Remember, the power of God's Word is not in the beauty of its sound but in the authority and faithfulness of the God who speaks it. His Word remains dependable, His promises remain sure, and His instructions remain worthy of our obedience. God's Word is an action Word! Hear it, believe it, obey it, and allow it to direct your steps.
