THEME: DO YOU HAVE CONFIDENCE IN GOD?
TEXT: [KJV] 1 JOHN 5:14
"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:"
Confidence in God is more than believing that God exists; it is having an unshakable assurance that He is trustworthy, dependable, and faithful to His Word. When you have confidence in God, you do not approach Him as though you are speaking to someone who may or may not listen. You come with the assurance that He hears you. The confidence described in our text is not confidence in our ability to make things happen; it is confidence “in Him.” This distinction is important. Your confidence is not based on your strength, wisdom, connections, resources, or circumstances. It is based on the character of the God you have trusted.
One of the greatest expressions of confidence in God is prayer. Prayer is an act of dependence. Every time you pray, you acknowledge that God can do what you cannot do and that His wisdom is greater than yours. However, our confidence in prayer must be guided by God's will. The Scripture says, “if we ask any thing according to his will.” This means genuine confidence in God does not demand that God conform to our desires; rather, it trusts Him enough to surrender our desires to His will. Sometimes, God answers by giving us exactly what we requested. At other times, He answers differently from what we expected. There are also moments when His answer appears to be delayed. Yet, none of these situations should make us doubt whether He heard us.
Do you have confidence in God? Can you trust Him when you cannot trace Him? Can you continue to believe His Word when your circumstances appear to contradict His promises? Can you submit your expectations to His will and still believe that He has your best interest at heart? True confidence in God produces peace in uncertainty, persistence in prayer, obedience to His Word, and stability in difficult seasons. You may not know how God will do it. You may not know when He will do it. You may not even understand why He is allowing certain things to happen. But if you know who God is, you can remain confident. He hears you. He knows you. He sees you. He is working according to His will. Therefore, don't allow unanswered questions to destroy your confidence in God. Don't let a temporary situation make you question an eternal God. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep obeying. Keep believing. Your confidence is not in what you see; your confidence is in Him.
PRAYER POINTS:
Father, I thank You because You are a faithful and dependable God.
Father, Help me to have unwavering confidence in You, especially when I cannot understand what You are doing.
Father, Teach me to pray according to Your will and to trust Your wisdom above my desires.
Father, Let my heart remain peaceful in uncertainty and steadfast in faith until Your purpose is fulfilled in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
