DIVINE CONNECTION DAILY DEVOTIONAL BY OLADELE T•E
THEME: BE MINDFUL OF YOUR MOTIVES!
TEXT: [AMP] JAMES 4:3
"[Or] you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasures."

One of the most important things God considers in our relationship with Him is not just what we ask for but also why we ask for it. While human beings are often carried away by outward appearances, God looks beyond what is visible to examine the intentions of the heart. It is possible to make a request that sounds reasonable but is driven by an intention that does not glorify God. In our anchor scripture, James reveals a reason some prayers go unanswered: wrong motives. The problem is not necessarily the request itself but the purpose behind it. In other words, a person can ask God for something legitimate while having an illegitimate intention for using it. God is not only interested in what He puts into your hands; He is also interested in what you intend to do with it.

Beloved, you must understand that the blessings of God are not merely possessions to be enjoyed; they are also resources to fulfil divine purposes. God can bless you so that you can become a blessing to others. He can lift you so that you can help lift others. He can increase your capacity so that you can contribute more meaningfully to His kingdom and the advancement of His purposes on the earth. Therefore, whenever you approach God in prayer, take time to examine your heart. Ask yourself: Why do I want this? What will I do with it when I receive it? Will this answer to prayer bring glory to God, or will it only satisfy my personal ambitions? These questions are important because our hearts can sometimes deceive us. We may present our desires to God as though they are entirely spiritual when, in reality, they are motivated by envy, competition, pride, or the desire to prove a point to others.

Beloved, God wants you to grow to the point where your desires are increasingly aligned with His purposes. When you desire success, let your motive be to honour Him through your success. When you desire wealth, let your motive include responsible stewardship and generosity. When you desire influence, let your motive be to serve people and advance what is right. When you desire an open door, be willing to use the opportunity to fulfil God's purpose. Remember, the right blessing pursued for the wrong reason can become a distraction from God's purpose for your life. Do not be so consumed with receiving an answer to prayer that you neglect the condition of your heart. Today, make it your commitment to approach God with sincerity. Let your prayers come from a heart that desires His glory above personal recognition. Ask Him not only to grant your requests but also to purify your intentions and prepare you to use His blessings wisely.

PRAYER POINTS:
Father, I thank You for Your Word, which exposes the intentions of my heart and guides me into Your perfect will.
Father, Please forgive me for every time I have approached You with selfish, prideful, or impure motives.
Father, Search my heart and reveal every intention that does not glorify You. Purify my desires and teach me to seek Your kingdom and righteousness above all else.
Father, As You bless me, help me to remain humble, generous, and committed to Your purpose.
Father, Let every blessing You entrust to me become a means of glorifying Your name and blessing the lives of others. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
