THEME: GOD HAS PUT A NEW SONG IN YOUR MOUTH!
TEXT: [KJV] PSALM 40:3
"And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD."
David declared, "And he hath put a new song in my mouth." Notice that David did not say, "I created a new song for myself." He said, "He hath put a new song in my mouth." This means that the new song was the product of God's intervention. A new song is often the expression of a new experience with God. When God changes your story, He changes your song. When He brings you out of the pit, He gives you a reason to praise Him. When He turns your captivity, He gives you a testimony. When He answers your prayer, your language changes. When He delivers you from what you could not deliver yourself from, praise naturally becomes your response.
Psalm 40 begins with David remembering how he waited patiently for the LORD and how God heard his cry. The Lord lifted him from a horrible pit, established his feet upon a rock, and then put a new song in his mouth. This teaches us an important spiritual truth: God does not merely bring you out, He also gives you a testimony after bringing you out. You may have experienced seasons where you could only pray, "Lord, help me." But a time is coming when your prayer will become, "Lord, thank You!" There are songs that can only be sung after certain battles have been won. There are praises that can only come after certain prayers have been answered. There are testimonies that can only be told after God has demonstrated His faithfulness. The new song represents a new testimony, a new experience, a new expression of God's faithfulness, and a new reason to praise Him.
David had to wait before he sang. This reminds us that waiting does not mean God has forgotten you. Sometimes God allows a season of waiting because He is preparing a testimony that will eventually make your song more meaningful. Do not allow the silence of your present season to make you doubt the faithfulness of God. Never conclude your story based on the chapter you are currently reading because God is still writing. The God who put a new song in David's mouth is still the same God today. He is able to take a person from weeping to rejoicing, from mourning to dancing, from shame to honor, and from prayer to praise. Your current situation is not powerful enough to cancel God's ability to give you a new song. God has already put a new song in your mouth. And when that song comes forth, it will glorify God, strengthen your faith, and cause many others to trust in the Lord.
PRAYER POINTS:
Father, I thank You because You are the God who turns situations around and gives new songs to those who trust in You.
Lord, let every old song of sorrow, disappointment, stagnation, shame, and frustration give way to a new song of joy, victory, celebration, restoration, and testimony.
Father, Let Your intervention turn my tears into songs of praise.
Father, Lift me from every pit, establish my feet upon the Rock, and order my steps according to Your will.
Father, Let there be undeniable evidence of Your goodness in my life. Give me testimonies that will glorify Your name and cause many to trust in You.
