THEME: A NEW HEART AND A NEW SPIRIT!
TEXT: [NLT] EZEKIEL 36:26
"And I will give you a new heart with new and right desires, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony heart of sin and give you a new, obedient heart."
One of the greatest miracles that takes place at the new birth is not merely a change in a person's circumstances, environment, or outward appearance, but a transformation of the heart and the spirit. When a person encounters Christ and genuinely becomes born again, God begins a work from the inside out. Christianity is not primarily about trying to modify an old nature through human effort; it is about receiving a new life from God. The Lord does not merely tell us to become better people rather He gives us what is necessary to live differently. God says, "I will give you a new heart... and I will put a new spirit in you." This reveals His desire to transform the very center of our lives.
The heart speaks of the inner person which is the seat of our desires, affections, motives, decisions, and inclinations. Before encountering Christ, the natural human heart is inclined toward self-will and sin. But through the new birth, God begins to establish a new disposition within the believer: a heart that desires Him, loves His ways, and is willing to obey His Word. God also says, "I will take out your stony heart of sin and give you a new, obedient heart." A stony heart is insensitive and resistant to God. It does not respond appropriately to His Word or correction. But God replaces that hardness with a heart that is responsive to Him. This is why genuine spiritual transformation begins from within. A person may change their appearance, location, associations, habits, or vocabulary and still remain unchanged inwardly. But when God changes the heart, the transformation eventually becomes evident in the way that person thinks, speaks, chooses, responds, and lives.
Furthermore, God promises, "I will put a new spirit in you." The work of salvation is therefore not simply about receiving forgiveness; it is about receiving a new spiritual capacity to live in fellowship with God and walk according to His purposes. The believer needs this inward transformation because a life that pleases God cannot be sustained merely by human determination. We need the work of God's Spirit within us to help us desire what God desires and to walk in obedience to His will. This is why we must never reduce Christianity to external religious activities. Going to church, carrying a Bible, using Christian vocabulary, or participating in religious programmes does not by itself constitute the new birth. God is interested in what is happening within us. A new heart is essential for new desires, and a new spirit is essential for a new walk. An authentic Christian living flows from the inside out as God gives you a new heart to desire His will and His Spirit to empower you to fulfill it.
PRAYER POINTS:
Father, I thank You for the miraculous transformation of the new birth and for giving me a soft, responsive, and obedient heart.
Lord, purge my desires. Remove every remaining trace of spiritual hardness, pride, or rebellion, and align my passions entirely with Your Word.
