"Asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you might grow in your knowledge of God."
Knowing God is not a destination; it is a lifelong journey of spiritual growth. The moment you come to Christ, you begin a journey of discovering who God is, understanding His ways, recognizing His voice, and becoming increasingly conformed to His will. Paul's prayer in Ephesians 1:17 reveals something important: knowing God requires spiritual wisdom and understanding. There is a dimension of knowing God that human intelligence, education, experience, or natural reasoning cannot produce. It takes the illumination of the Holy Spirit to understand the things of God and to see Him beyond what circumstances may suggest. You can know about God without truly knowing God. Information about God comes through learning, but intimate knowledge of God develops through relationship, fellowship, obedience, prayer, His Word, and walking with Him daily.
The more you know God, the more your perspective changes. You begin to trust Him even when you cannot explain what He is doing. You become confident in His character even when your circumstances are uncertain. You learn that God's silence does not mean His absence, and His delay does not mean He has forgotten you. This is why spiritual growth is so important. God does not want you to remain at the same level of understanding year after year. He wants you to grow deeper in your knowledge of Him. As you grow in the knowledge of God, you discover His faithfulness, His wisdom, His love, His holiness, His power, His mercy, and His purpose for your life. You also become more sensitive to His leading and better equipped to distinguish His will from the voices and pressures around you.
Notice that growth is intentional. You must give yourself to the things that deepen your relationship with God. Spend time in His Word. Pray. Worship. Meditate on His character. Obey what He reveals to you. Ask questions. Seek understanding. And most importantly, remain willing to follow Him even when you do not have all the answers. You cannot grow in your knowledge of God and remain unchanged. The more you know Him, the more you reflect Him. The more you understand His heart, the more your desires begin to align with His. The more you trust His character, the less controlled you become by fear and uncertainty. Do not be satisfied with merely knowing stories about God. Know Him personally. Know His Word. Know His ways. Know His heart. Know His voice. There is always more of God to discover.
PRAYER POINTS:
Father, I ask that You give me spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Father, Open the eyes of my heart to know You more deeply and to understand Your ways.
Father, Take me beyond merely knowing about You into a genuine and intimate relationship with You.
Father, Help me to grow daily in Your Word, in faith, in obedience, and in the knowledge of Your character.
Father, Let my life increasingly reflect the One I am getting to know. In Jesus' name, Amen.
